Far beyond fiction, the story of this princess takes us back to the 14th century, to the lands that today make up the Municipality of Alandroal. Travelling with her father, King Afonso, the young “Maria of Portugal” finds herself alone and homesick, but her fascination with the region’s castles and the arrival of a new friendship set in motion events that will mark her forever.
About the illustration
Digital watercolour. Graphite contour drawing on white paper, scanned and coloured digitally. Digital painting carried out in Photoshop, using a graphics tablet and stylus. Priority use of “watercolour” brushes to simulate the effects of real watercolour on paper.
